Attended an interesting Extreme Weather – Business resilience conference at the impressive Oracle Centre Linlithgow on Wednesday 23rd Jan. Interesting pesentations were given by: Ross Melville Senior Civil Emergencies Adviser – Met Office Scotland & NI, Darren Faulds – Chief Inspector Police Scotland, Eilidh Duffy -Transport Resilience Officer Transport Scotland and Jerry Marshall – Head of Business Resillience RBOS.
The event brought home the impact that extreme weather can have, especially on the road infrastructure and on rural communitues. Many references were made to the “Beast from the East 2018” and how emergency services struggled to cope with the resulting grid lock on Scottish road networks.
Several discussions took place on the potential for Smart Village Scotland to help convey warnings of such future conditions as part of the standard offering within the Smart Village Initiative for people and businesses throughout Rural Scotland.
The Event was sponsored by SEStran Tactran and the Scottish Business Resilience Centre
